Lupus Ahroun of the Children of Gaia.

Black-Fur always knew he was special. His mother was the lead alpha, and every wolf knew she was more than a wolf - one of the skinchangers who guarded the wilds and protected the wolf kin - so despite being female she was undisputedly the leader of the pack, picking the best of the males to be her alpha. Black-Fur was one of her favourite pups, the only of the litter to be born with the distinctive black fur his mother bore as legacy of her gift.

When Black-Fur Changed, with the new awareness that came with it, he knew it was meant to be. Already the leader of his own small pack, he was special, like his mother, and would be a grim Fury like she, guardian and leader of his pack. Except his mother's tribe would not take him in; he was a lowly male, not a superior female like them, and he would never be a Fury. His mother escorted him to a city pack, leaving him with them to learn the way of the Garou.

While his mother still visits him and, occasionally, teaches him, Black-Fur feels the abandonment of "his" tribe, and works constantly to prove himself a protector of Gaia and of women, trying to convince his adoptive tribe to take the fight to the Wyrm like his "true" tribe does, instead of passively waiting for It to strike. He doesn't know how to talk to humans, however, and most find the words of a wolf unconvincing, but when time for action comes, the wolf Kin (and most Garou) will follow Black-Fur instinctively.

Bio: The pup that would be Daniel Archer was born into a fetid pit in the world, armed with his own two hands and a billowing Rage.
Not much has changed.
The pit is a different one, with a different level of squalor, and this'd hands occasionally grow claws, but the Rage is still brewing constantly under the surface, but the basics are the same.

Humans -- like wolves -- are, at heart, pack creatures, and the Kinfolk that were Daniel's caregivers (Gaia Rest them) encouraged Daniel to seek out allies amongst the naked apes. He found five, and, unusually for the Garou, he maintains close ties with them all, even the four who left the streets behind.

Dan's First Change came when he was first called upon to defend them from a random outburst of gangland violence, with Dan's pack caught in the middle.

It was a bloodbath.

The Kinfolk whisked him away and explained to him what he was. What he was meant to do.
Dan's pack grew closer to him when he elected to return to them, and he even began to date one -- the only one still in his daily life. The one who would later turn to drugs to fight the horrors of her abject poverty, instead of fighting her way out of the pit.
The others left and took up trades, one even gained significant power in combating poverty as a police chief.
Dan lives where his friend's precinct patrols.

Since his Change, the young Garou has devoted himself to his inherited cause, and found comfort in reading, reciting, and relaying old words of Wisdom by Man and Beast long gone from the world. He has even created some of his own.
And, of course, he has trained, constantly, to make war with the tools he was born with. His own two paws.

The people have had much stolen from him, and Dan's barrio has become his personal Sherwood. The first thing he's stealing back is the people's fighting spirit.

Biting is good. Claw Rake, Dirty Fighting, Blocking, Tripping, etc. can work too.
Little reminder for players unused to 2nd Edition: Biting is Difficulty 5 and STR+1 damage, Claws are Difficulty 6 and STR+2 damage (and can be upgraded to STR+3 with the Razor Claws Gift).

For some reason, I had it in my head that Expression always had a specialty, like Technology, or is that not a 2nd ed rule?

I was thinking more "found paraphernalia", with the gun and the car being less-than-legal and Practically a junker barely saved from the 'yard, respectively. (It's 26 years old!), but I'm good with hot items. I have a buddy on the Force, anyway.

Bio: Snatches-Food was the sickly runt of the litter. Not even her mother thought that she would make it past her first winter. When a blizzard hit, and Snatches-Food was nowhere to be found, the pack did not mourn her loss so much as acknowledge the inevitable outcome had come to pass. Snatches-Food, in the meantime, had decided the slightly condescending social ties of the pack were not quite enough to outweigh a continued existence, and took up residence in an inexplicably rotund hollow tree  that smelled of dogs, an ape, and (more importantly) food and warmth sighted on an earlier hunt.

Marco, the attack dog breeder, going out to find what had gotten the kennel riled up to no avail, came back to find his dinner missing and a mustard stained wolf pup lying in front of the fire. Snatches-Food, discovering too late that apes don't hibernate over the winter, contrived to look as cold, hungry, apologetic, and cute as possible.

Marco, after a long internal struggle between the conflicting destructive and nurturing impulses, found the possibilities of having a wolf as breeding stock without having to find some bribable park rangers outweighed his momentary frustration, even if the scrawniness would take a few generations to breed out.

Over the next two years, Snatches-Food picked up quite a few tidbits from Marco's conversations over the rectangular noise thing, the light-noise box, and the other dogs. She birthed a litter in captivity, which Marco thought was from the biggest Caucasian Sheppard until the pups fur sprouted red. Just the night before that discovery, Snatches-Food figured out that all you needed to do to open the latch was turn your paw into a hand, and went off in search of adventure, finding that there were very few spots of trouble that couldn't be escaped by the ape's inexplicable reactions to a suddenly appearing naked female ape professing a desire to mate with them, if only to provide a moment of confusion for a quickish getaway.

Eventually, a passing Silent Strider, Ptolemy, became curious about the spree of gender-unspecific adulterous-robberies, and quickly found the scent of the wayward pup. He gave her a brief education in the ways of the Garou and showed her that if she must commit crime, the most risk averse crime was organized crime.

Snatches-Food was delighted to find that the apes, or rather homids, travelled in packs of their own, but got lesser homids to hunt their food and were almost always warm. Even better, with a more complicated language, you didn't even need to offer a mating or food to manipulate them!

Throughout that year, Ptolemy introduced Snatches-Food to some of the local Mafia while teaching her a few Garou tricks, and she quickly climbed the ladder of criminal influence through covert use of her supernatural talents, social skills, and blackmail.  Come springtime, Ptolemy found, with a mixture of indignation and pride, that Snatches-Food had left for parts unknown with everything he owned. Snatches-Food, for her part, wanted to investigate the social circles of the Garou, and headed to New York.

Rulings: Contraceptive pills, like other mundane drugs, do not affect Garou. That, and downing Magadon products constantly is a terrible, terrible idea. There are other ways around breeding, though.

Garou Name: Dark Waters
Homid Name: Kekoa Holiday

Bio:   Kekoa was born in what should have been paradise Moloka’i island in Hawai’i.  But the boy has been called to fight since he was born.  He was protesting tourist traps being built on his home when he was in grade school, and he’s never stopped fighting for the health and independence of his home since.


School was a joke, he had better things to do, and he couldn’t stand to deal with bullies, politics, or bullshit tests.  His parents thought they had found a mentor that could handle him when he took some aikido and kyodo lessons in junior high, but Kekoa eventually got to rough with his classmates and could never handle the zen of the bow forms.  He still misses his sensei, and hopes someday he can learn some more from her.


Like so many kids in Hawai’i he took up surfing early, and he really got good at it with his natural balance.  He did some pro work in his late teens and was able to save up some money from the competitions he won.


His first change came late at 19.  


He isn’t sure where his wolf-blood came from.  His mom says that her granddad was a Codetalker traveling through to the Pacific theater during WW2, or maybe it was Irish nurse on his Dad’s side when she was traveling through to her station in China beach during Vietnam, or it was just from somewhere else in the mix.  Kekoa doesn’t give a fuck about where the fuck it came from, just what the fuck he’s going to do with it.


As a lost cub his first change meant there was a lot of damage before the Uktena pack on the Island could help him.  A lot of livestock was lost on Moloka’i and so was a police officer investigating the crimes.  Kekoa eventually got his shit together but he couldn’t stay on the Island.  The dead cop was always going to haunt him, but more importantly Kekoa realized he needed to go some place where he could do something.  Moloka’i had her protectors but like his great grandad and grandma he needed to go out and fight. 


He packed his bag and went to the East coast.  He figures if New York doesn’t work out he can try LA.  Those cesspits need some cleaning.


Ironically enough the Sept of the Green set him up with a job with the garbage collectors.  The smell is fucking terrible, but he seems to keep getting placed on routes that need a little extra cleaning, ya’know?

I wanted him to have some time to earn some money as a semi-pro surfer before the first change hits.  19 is as I understand it on the "late bloomer" side of things.

He's spent a few years since the first change being trained by the Uktena pack in Hawai'i and avoiding criminal investigations from that dead copy.

As a rule, I'm very, very wary of this kind of origin story... I see this a lot in nWoD especially where players completely miss the point of being a werewolf and play their characters like "human-with-powers". But hell - prove me wrong.
